Dinner at FARM
I have to confess a new found love for FARM. I have eaten there 4 times in the last 10 days. In the last month the level of service has improved to be what I would call hospitality, the food is better each time I go in, the drinks superior to many of the bars in town, and the cellar . . . there is nothing I can say that would help you understand how amazing I think it is. I walked into the space and the first words out of my mouth were, “I want one.”
In my life, basements are the place where you hang out. I suspect this is true for many of us. I have a vivid memory of my grandfathers basement, with it’s fishing reels and flies, girlie calendar on the wall, football on the tv, armchair in the corner. . . it was his space. I will always remember him in that place.
I want to launch into a list of all the great basements I have known and the memories that are attached to them. The fact that being downstairs at FARM makes me feel this way is what makes the space such a success. Chef Daniel Orr has created a place that feels like home, or what I want in my home. He has created a space that reaches deep into my most cherished memories and this makes me want to go there over and over again.
Jean and I were there the other night and decided that there is nothing so important in life as great food and laughter. We fell in love with a room in that basement and immediately began to plan a party with our favorite people. I am sure that we will eat and laugh ourselves silly and I look forward to it.
